Budapest (Hungarian: [ˈbudɒpɛʃt]; names in other languages) is the capital and the largest city of Hungary, and one of the largest cities in the European Union. It is the country's principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, and transportation centre, sometimes described as the primate city of Hungary. According to the census, in 2011 Budapest had 1.74 million inhabitants, down from its 1989 peak of 2.1 million due to suburbanisation. The Budapest Metropolitan Area is home to 3.3 million people. The city covers an area of 525 square kilometres (202.7 sq mi). Budapest became a single city occupying both banks of the river Danube with the unification of Buda and Óbuda on the west bank, with Pest on the east bank on 17 November 1873.
The history of Budapest began with Aquincum, originally a Celtic settlement that became the Roman capital of Lower Pannonia.Hungarians arrived in the territory in the 9th century. Their first settlement was pillaged by the Mongols in 1241–42. The re-established town became one of the centres of Renaissance humanist culture by the 15th century. Following the Battle of Mohács and nearly 150 years of Ottoman rule, the region entered a new age of prosperity in the 18th and 19th centuries, and Budapest became a global city after its unification in 1873. It also became the second capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a great power that dissolved in 1918, following World War I. Budapest was the focal point of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, the Hungarian Republic of Councils in 1919, the Battle of Budapest in 1945, and the Revolution of 1956.
A flea market (or swap meet) is a type of bazaar that rents space to people who want to sell or barter merchandise. Used goods, low quality items, and high quality items such as collectibles and antiques are commonly sold. Many markets offer fresh produce or baked goods, plants from local farms and vintage clothes. Renters of the flea market tables are called vendors. It may be indoors, as in a warehouse or school gymnasium; or outdoors, as in a field or parking lot or under a tent. Flea markets can be held annually or semiannually, others may be conducted monthly, on weekends, or daily. Flea-market vendors may range from a family that is renting a table for the first time to sell a few unwanted household items, to scouts who rove the region buying items for sale from garage sales and other flea markets, and several staff watching the stalls.
Flea market vending is distinguished from street vending in that the market itself, and not any other public attraction, brings in buyers. Many flea markets have food vendors who sell snacks and drinks to the patrons. Some flea market vendors have been targeted by law enforcement efforts to halt the sale of bootleg movies and music or knockoff brand clothing, accessories, or fragrances.

Hungary (i/ˈhʌŋɡəri/; Hungarian: Magyarország [ˈmɒɟɒrorsaːɡ]) is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is situated in the Carpathian Basin and is bordered by Slovakia to the north, Romania to the east, Serbia to the south, Croatia to the southwest, Slovenia to the west, Austria to the northwest, and Ukraine to the northeast. The country's capital and largest city is Budapest. Hungary is a member of the European Union, NATO, the OECD, the Visegrád Group, and the Schengen Area. The official language is Hungarian, which is the most widely spoken non-Indo-European language in Europe.
Following centuries of successive habitation by Celts, Romans, Huns, Slavs, Gepids, and Avars, the foundation of Hungary was laid in the late 9th century by the Hungarian grand prince Árpád in the Honfoglalás ("homeland-conquest"). His great-grandson Stephen I ascended to the throne in 1000 CE, converting the country to a Christian kingdom. By the 12th century, Hungary became a middle power within the Western world, reaching a golden age by the 15th century. Following the Battle of Mohács in 1526 and about 150 years of partial Ottoman occupation (1541–1699), Hungary came under Habsburg rule, and later formed a significant part of the Austro–Hungarian Empire (1867–1918).

Slightly more than one half of Hungary's landscape consists of flat to rolling plains of the Carpathian Basin: the most important plain regions include the Little Hungarian Plain in the west, and the Great Hungarian Plain in the southeast. The highest elevation above sea level on the latter is only 183 metres.

World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Budapest - Hungary Travel Guide, Tourism http://bit.ly/1e46zIc Shopping in Budapest - Hungary Budapest offers a great variety of decently priced shopping. Particularly good to buy here is clothing, antiques and jewellery. Key areas: Pest's chic Váci utca and its surrounding avenues tempt tourists with familiar high-street and designer names. Porcelain lovers should hunt down Zsolnay, V Kigyó utca 4, or Herend, I Szentháromság utca 5 - both produce some of the finest pieces in Europe. Markets: Budapest's Great Market Hall (Nagy Vásárcsarnok), IX Fovám tér, is great for bargains. This imposing three-storey structure first opened in 1897. On the ground floor are strings of paprika-like red coral necklaces, pots of pickles, goose liver and s...

Saturday ride to one of the oldest flea markets in Hungary You know what they say... Someone's trash is someone's treasure! What a collection! The antique camera shop evoked such nostalgia! Probably had a 100 year old camera in there somewhere :D Got a fantastic deal on some good binoculars. So obviously I had to try them out! Headed out to Elizabeth Lookout point on the other side of Danube. Lovely ride up the hill. The views are just fabulous. The twin cities of Buda and Pest on one side and Countryside on the other. All this riding makes me hungry so GSearched for a seafood joint. Decent place with a good variety of seafood. A tad bit on the higher side price wise. The hand cut chips were probably the best I've had anywhere in the world... Maybe even better than the ones below S...

This rare Italian Baroque strong box is crafted of reinforced wrought iron and is designed to be virtually indestructible. Intended to secure one's most precious valuables, the fascinating safe is enveloped in thick iron strap work that surrounds its massive walnut frame. The defining feature of large Baroque strong boxes of this caliber is a complicated locking mechanism, and this example is fitted with an exceptionally well-engineered two-way locking system. As an added security measure, one must know the precise way in which to manipulate not one, but two unique iron keys, both of which have hidden keyholes. Once inside, the walnut box is fitted with shelving that provides ample space for one's money and valuables. Very few of these "Old World" relics remain, and those that do were most...

Wow! To be perfectly honest, we were not prepared for this chocolate to be as good as it is. This brand is definitely some of the best in the world and A Priori is thrilled and proud to include it in our portfolio. Explore single origin bars made with beans from Venezuela's famous Franceschi family, with no vanilla and a balanced roast. This type of passionate production allows for a very deep exploration of terroir, while still having a distinctly European “chocolateyness” (we insist this is a word). Additionally, some of their inclusion bars such as Milk Chocolate with Caramelized Lavender Blossoms will amaze even the most jaded connoisseur!
Nowadays Budapest is once again becoming known to visitors as much for being a mecca for shoppers -- a reputation which last held true a century ago -- as for being a country that for half of that century had been held in the ruthless grip of Communism. Whilst from the 1950's onwards there was never any shortage of basic foods, generations of locals and visitors alike were denied the finer things in life. Nowadays there are two trends discernable amongst retailers in Budapest: "big is beautiful" and "small is beautiful." Which is to say that there are now a host of huge shopping malls which have revolutionized people's approach to shopping. But perhaps surprisingly, the number of smaller outlets offering "luxury" goods and services has also mushroomed. There are now, for example, places w...
This movies is a combination of our travel day (day 4) and first full day in Budapest (day 5). The Cathedral forms the focal point of this 11 mile circular around the South East of Ely. Shortly after leaving the station, the walker is following the Ouse Valley Way, beside the Great Ouse, heading South towards Little Thetford. Passing through this attractive village, it's then across arable fields for lunch at the former RAF base at Witchford. Thereafter, the route passes over former runways, with the Cathedral still in view, before crossing former fens for the walk back into Ely, traversing a golf course on the way. The cathedral is finally reached and would be well worth a visit, if time allows (the view from the top of the cathedral tower is amazing! Not enough daylight on this trip though...). Finally, it's down to the riverside, and its cafes/bars, for the stroll back to the ...
